Dr Jörg Reichenberger

Dr Reichenberger is a Gastroenterologist and Internal Medicine Specialist in private practice at the Netcare Unitas Hospital in Pretoria.

He started his postgraduate training in 1993 at the Department of Medicine at a District Hospital in Munich, moving in 1995 to Professor Meinhard Classen`s Medical Department at the Technical University of Munich, Klinikum rechts der Isar (Gastroenterology/ Endocrinology/Nephrology) for further postgraduate training for physicians and gastroenterologists. In 2002 he passed his board exam for physicians after completing training as a specialist in internal medicine, and in 2004, the board exam for the sub-specialty in gastroenterology. At Klinikum Recht der Isar, Dr Reichenberger was part of a high-volume unit doing between 7000 and 8000 endoscopies per year, including approximately 1200 ERCPs and 500 endoscopic ultrasounds.

Dr Reichenberger registered at the HPCSA as specialist physician in 2005 and as a Gastroenterologist in 2006, emigrating to South Africa in 2007. In that same year her was appointed as a medical session doctor at the Department of Surgery at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital Surgical Endoscopy Unit. In November 2007 he commenced with the MBChB examinations at the University of the Free State, passing these in 2008.

Dr Reichenberger has been a Member of the South African Medical Association (SAMA) since 2006, and has previously been a Member of SAGES, a Board member of the EGDG (European Study Group for Dysphagia and Globus), Treasurer of the Munich-Dysphagia-Study-Group, GATE – Education for Gastroenterology / Training of Endoscopy, DGIM – German Society for Internal Medicine, and DGVS – German Society of Digestive & Metabolic Diseases.

Dr Reichenberger is experienced in ERCP, double balloon endoscopies, capsule endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, photodynamic therapy of klatskin tumours and percutaneous bile duct drainage (PTC) and has been involved in 20 scientific publications and presentations.
